How to clear your browser history

Clear your browser history to hide your online activity

When browsing for information that you wouldn’t want an abuser to see (for example, shelter locations, laws, etc), it’s important to make sure that your browser history doesn’t reveal what you’ve been doing online. One way to do this is use “private” or “incognito” browsing mode. However, if you haven’t been doing this already, you can clear your history so no one can see what you’ve been doing online.

However, clearing your entire history for the day can also look suspicious. So try to clear only specific searches or history items, including for pages like this. Here’s how:

Firefox

  1. Open the browser menu and select “History”
  2. Click “View History Sidebar”
  3. Right-click on the entry to remove. Select “Delete This Page” to remove only that entry. Choose “Forget About This Site” to remove all history related to that website.
  4. In the History menu, you choose “Clear Recent History” to clear items from a specific time range. Clear cookies, cache and offline website data to remove the rest of the traces of your activity.

Internet Explorer

  1. Select the “Favorites” button
  2. Select the “History” tab, then right-click specific sites to delete them

Chrome

  1. On your computer, Open Chrome.
  2. Open Chrome and go to the Three Dots to the very right of the application.
  3. On the menu, Hover over, “More Tools”.
  4. The additional menu that pops out. Click, “Clear Browsing Data…”.
  5. In the, “Clear browsing data” menu. Click the drop down menu.
  6. Then Click, “All Time”.
  7. Next, Click, “CLEAR DATA”.

Your data should now be removed and you’re all set
